FROM THE SKY

Made acting Captain due to Lipinski’s indiscretion, TJ balks at the responsibility. He’d rather be outside in the field than sitting behind a desk. His life with psychic Mallory Pope is almost ideal—she’s everything he thought he wanted, but her uncanny knack of reading his mind is driving him crazy. Afraid to breathe, TJ escapes to his paperwork.

The patrols find a body on a wooded road. Female, mid-forties, no ID. No car, no tire tracks, barely alive. Doctors are unsure if she’ll recover. No one is looking for her, which means someone wanted her dead.
But how did she get there? With no evidence, TJ has no place to start looking.

Until Mallory’s meeting with the woman reveals she fell out of a hot air balloon. Should be easy to find. But it’s mid-January—no one is flying in the unpredictable weather.

And Internal Affairs comes to TJ with a request that makes him question his entire future, not only with the department, but with Mallory.
